Franck Deron • The Wild
The Wild, 2009
Single channel video
A beautiful experimental film, containing voicemails in different languages and a wild girl, filmed without a lens.
Franck Deron about his film:
,,The film was shot on a regular Nikon D90. I took the lens off. Then I carefully taped some aluminum foil where the lens should be, took a sharp pin, and barely tapped it on the foil in order to make a microscopic hole.” – source
So, what Deron did, is making his D90 into a pinhole camera. The result is an achingly beautiful film with a truly nostalgic feel to it. Captivating and reminiscent of summers long gone, although there are no leaves on the branches of some trees in the film. But maybe that doesn’t matter. What matters, is the atmosphere Deron creates, very similar to that in the musical work of a certain Scottish duo, in particular in this video we posted earlier.
Actually, I have a D90 at home. Maybe I’ll give this technique a little try myself. But first, I’m gonna watch this film again.
