From Syberia to Barcelona

From Syberia to Barcelona

| On 04, Nov 2015

While we’re packing our bags for Aloud Music Festival this weekend, Oskar, drummer in Syberia, was so kind to give us his favorite (post-rock) spots in Barcelona. Here are his favorite stores, bars, restaurants, concert venues,… Maybe we’ll see you there, or at AMFest of course.

REVOLVER VERDE – Right in the middle of Calle Tallers is the best record store in Barcelona. Second-hand records, limited editions, rare boxsets… a great variety of vinyl records of all styles, with a particularly great selection on metal, prog rock and indie. A must-visit for both music fans and musicians visiting the city. (Calle Tallers 11)

MUCCI’S – Still in Calle Tallers and feeling a bit hungry, or you just fancy having some drinks while watching the latest Barça match? Check out Mucci’s, this place is specialized in Argentinian pasties and pizza and usually has a lovely soundtrack and young atmosphere. (Calle Tallers 75)

LA ROSA NEGRA – This Mexican restaurant not only has one of the most unique and kitsch decoration in town, but also a fantastic daily menu and some seriously amazing burritos and cocktail assortments, at unbeatable prices. (Via Laietana 46)

ARKHAM COMICS – Also at the very city center is this small but full of surprises shop which will conquer the hearts of comic, manga and culture lovers. From the latest comic releases to the craziest merchandising and collectibles, its owner Xavi has it all. The perfect place to find the perfect toy for the kid/geek we all have in us. (Carrer d’en Xucla 16)

NEVERMIND – This one-of-a-kind bar is conveniently located at Calle Tallers and is the place to stop at once you’ve bought your hardcore, punk or rock albums of choice at Revolver. The bar is covered in graffiti, its tables made of thousands of broken skateboards and it even has its own built-in half-pipe if skating is your thing. Need more reasons? You get free popcorn with your drink and you get to listen to the best punk and grunge. (C/Escudellers Blancs 3)

PHENOMENA EXPERIENCE – This cinema located near the Sagrada Familia area offers the best movies in original version. And by the best movies we mean both classic and cult movies, from Mad Max to the Goonies, Pulp Fiction or Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Check out their website/program in advance since most of the movies are only displayed at one particular session, and tickets often sell out. (Carrer De Sant Antoni Maria Claret 168)

LA ESQUINICA – For many people, both local and tourists, this is the best tapas place in Barcelona, and visitors from all over the world come to visit this non-touristic neighbourhood just to sit at their wooden, rustic tables.  Traditional patatas bravas, croquetas and tortilla de patatas, served in a lively venue and with very good prices. No wonder why there’s usually queues in the street to be able to have dinner there – make sure you get there as early as possible if you want to make it in! Finishing dinner with their crema catalana is always worth any potential wait. (Paseig de Fabra i Puig 296)

SALA APOLO – If there is one concert venue we love in Barcelona, that is the mythical Sala Apolo, located at the heart of Paralel (Barcelona’s very own Broadway). Apolo was originally an amusement park at the beginning of the 20th century and later became the most popular ballroom in town, before it started hosting live music concerts at the beginning of the 90′s. Today Sala Apolo hosts not only the best concerts but also daily DJ sessions with different themes who will help you inmerse in the newest sounds. (Nou de la Rambla 113)
